CAMBRIA, San Luis Obispo County — October 27, 2026. Local drivers may encounter paving crews as part of a countywide road preservation effort. San Luis Obispo County Public Works announced a microsurfacing program covering approximately 50 miles of county-maintained roads, with Cambria among five communities included in the work.

What the county announced

The September 4 notice lists Cambria, San Miguel, Templeton, Santa Margarita and Nipomo. Paving is expected to run from early October through December 2026, weather permitting. The county says motorists should anticipate temporary one-way traffic controls and flaggers where work is underway.

Microsurfacing is a pavement preservation treatment that creates a new wearing surface on existing roads. It is not the same as replacing underground water and sewer infrastructure or rebuilding every street curb to curb.

Parking and driveway access

Public Works says affected residents should receive 72 hours’ notice through bilingual door hangers. On a scheduled paving day, parking on the work street will be restricted and temporary no-parking signs will be posted. Driveway access may be limited for a few hours while the surface cures, except for emergencies.

These details are important for families planning deliveries, medical appointments or business access. The announcement identifies communities, not a single countywide simultaneous closure. To find out whether a particular road is in the work area, consult the county’s project map and current notices.

How to get updates

Weather, contractor progress and on-site conditions may change the schedule. The original fall timetable should not be treated as proof that a particular street is closed on October 27 or that all work will be finished by December.
